My neighbour has done so much for so many of our neighbours! He has shown new Canadians how to mow their lawn. He has dog treats for next door doggies when they ask for them! He waters his neighbors’ yard, plus helps her with her plants! He has helped me with trailer issues and my yard work, giving me advice. Anytime, a neighbor needs help with something, he’s usually the first one to step up and help! Our block is very lucky to have a Great Neighbour Like Pat!

Newell Housing Foundation - In August $72,246 in rent subsidies were provided to 146 households. There are 17 families waiting for Community Housing units in the area. Newbrook Lodge and Playfair Lodge each have 8 open spots, Dr. Scott Apartments are full, and Pioneer Villa and Community Housing have 4 and 2 openings. Nearby, Rosemary and Tilley have 1 vacancy each, while Duchess is all filled up.

Rainier Solar Farm - is a proposed 450 MW solar project with a substation built approximately six kilometres southwest of Brooks. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2024 by Solar Krafte and Kinbrook Solar. Estimated Cost: $700 million.

Doctor Recruitment and Retention - To attract and keep doctors in the area, a doctor recruitment and retention program offers three subsidies, totaling $6,000. Three new doctors have joined the community, one at South Shore Clinic and a husband-wife team working across the region.

Let's Go Rural Post Secondary Skills Day. 30 second and third-year medical students from the University of Calgary gathered in Brooks in September, for the "Let's Go Rural Post Secondary Skills Day." They toured medical facilities, including Centennial Health Clinic, experienced EMS in a rural setting, and explored the recreational and dining in the area. The goal was to inspire these future doctors to consider establishing their careers in our region, highlighting the advantages of being a rural physician.

NewGrow 2023 Fall Intake is set for Friday, December 1, and is currently accepting applications from businesses in the Brooks Newell Region. With $19,000 to be awarded to regional businesses. Of the four businesses awarded funds during the spring intake, three are fully operational, while one is in its startup phase.

New Home Warranty program - The impact of the provincial New Home Warranty program has had adverse effects on smaller local builders and left only large home builders from outside the area able to build homes. Brooks Newell Region counsellors will discuss these concerns with their provincial counterparts during the upcoming Municipality conferences.

Highway #1/36 overpass - was a topic of discussion at a recent Joint Shared Services meeting, with growing recognition of its significance for economic development. The committee wants the Provincial Government to acknowledge the increasing importance of this interchange in our region's growth.
