Alberta Culture Days is a vibrant, province-wide celebration to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.

This year’s activities include a Fall Fair hosted by the Brooks & District Museum, an International Cooking Event presented by SPEC, "Our Stories" at the CPR Engineers House, and "The Story Factory", a collaboration between the Brooks Public Library and Tumbleweed Theatre.

The City of Brooks will be hosting Taste of Nations on Saturday September 23rd, in the Field House at the JBS Canada Centre.

Brooks Fire Department Report for January 1, through August 30, 2023.

  • 319 calls for service, a 9% increase from 2022.

    • 71% (225) within the City of Brooks and 29% (94) rural.

  • 12 EMS Assist Calls, down 44%.

    • 67% (eight) within the City and 33% (four) rural.

  • 53 Grassfire Calls, up 71%.

  • 39 Motor Vehicle Collision Calls, 42 calls in 2022.

  • 5 Water Rescue Calls, compared to three in 2022.

  • 3 Livestock Rescue Calls the same for 2022.

  • 10 Property Fire Calls up from 4 in 2022.

  • Regional Fire Training Facility was used by outside agencies 11 days in 2023 compared to 12 days in 2022.

  • There are six vacancies due to career advancements of firefighters who have become full-time firefighters in Sikisika Nation, Lethbridge and Red Deer.

Palliser Airshed Society would like to locate a continuous monitoring station in Evergreen Park. Mayor Petrie suggested an alternate location across from the Hort Lift Station but PAS does not feel that is a suitable location. The Society wants to see the unit located within the inner-city.

 

Rodeo Grounds Project Councillor Wardrop attended a stakeholder meeting to receive feedback on the Rodeo Grounds Sports Field project. The primary issue is with the design. Stakeholders want to see different options. Some amenities that are in demand are walking trails, picnic areas, and splash pads. The budget for this project in the 10-year Capital Plan is $3,000,000.
