National Good Neighbor Day is Thursday, September 28th.

It wasn't too long ago when neighbours were more than just faces we passed by. Now, many of us do not even know the people living next door.

Here's the challenge: make National Good Neighbor Day the day you begin a friendship, strike up conversations, and truly get to know your neighbours. Let's spur on the spirit of unity within our community.

On National Good Neighbor Day take the opportunity to connect with your neighbours. Lend a helping hand, or simply start a conversation. You might be surprised at the friendships you can build and the positive impact you can make.

Do you have a Good Neighbour story to share? Did you or someone you know face adversity but found support from their neighbours. Sharing the story could spur us on a journey to make Brooks an even more welcoming and caring place to live. Creating a community where every neighbour feels valued, supported, and truly at home.

Pop-up drive-through café. Initially approved as a temporary setup, Sips owner Shauna Gray has requested that the use become more permanent. The goal is to be in a brick-and-mortar building but that might take three and five years. This is a unique request in the city's history. The decision could influence the future business landscape in Brooks.

Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games, held from August 17th to the 20th, were a great success, thanks to over 200 volunteers and key organizers Kelly Sanford and Dwayne Perkins. There is a surplus of approximately $30,000. The allocation of these funds is yet to be decided, but the committee is considering using the funds to bid on hosting the next games in four years.

Rolling Hills Agricultural Society has submitted a request to increase its annual allocation beginning in 2024 by 29.5% from $92,615 to $120,000. County CAO Matt Fenske commented on this request "Recreation is a fun file . . . we have a number of providers throughout the community and a number of ICF agreements . . . We are working with Rosemary and Duchess currently to update agreements” Matt suggests establishing a formal agreement, with predictable funding support over a four or five-year period with incremental increases and consideration given to user fees. “When requesting a 30 percent increase funded by taxpayers, we must ensure users are also willing to contribute more.” Details will be worked out in 2024 budget discussions, focusing on accountability, programming outcomes, and financial reporting.
