Taste of Nations hosted by the City of Brooks takes place Saturday, September 23rd, 11am - 2pm at JBS Canada Centre Field House. Enjoy cuisine from China, Korea, Philippines, Ukraine, France, Columbia, El Salvador, . . . a Cultural showcase will be presented on stage by SPEC Association and Brooks & County Immigration Services - BCIS. Air Quality Monitoring - Palliser Airshed Society was requesting an air quality monitoring unit be placed in Evergreen Park. City Council suggested a more suitable location be found. The southwest side of the quad ball diamonds was agreed to be the best location.

Loitering issues - The RCMP asked The City if a Loitering Bylaw could be created to address a loitering issue at the JBS Canada Centre. In the new Community Standards Bylaw “Loiter” means when done idly or without apparent purpose, to stand or wait around, hang around, linger, tarry, saunter, delay, or dawdle. The Bylaw will read: No person shall Loiter in or near a Public Place in a way that obstructs any other Person’s lawful use or enjoyment of that Public Place.

Old Rodeo Grounds to New Sports Field Complex - the concept plan for the Grounds includes a football field, a track, two soccer fields, bleachers, lighting and walking trails. The plan was presented at a stakeholder meeting. User groups had the opportunity to provide feedback.

Key takeaways from stakeholders What We Heard Report:

• There is some satisfaction with the current concept plan, however, there can be layout improvements.

• The ability to host tournaments at this site is important to user groups.

• Concessions, change rooms and washrooms are the top amenities required to host tournaments.

• Renovation of the existing building should be a high priority.

• There is interest in one of the fields being synthetic turf.

• The football field should be configured to face north-south.

• Track and field throwing events should be incorporated into the plan.

• This site should be a community hub that includes additional amenities such as a spray park, pickleball courts, beach volleyball and lit pathways.

• The track should be placed around one of the soccer fields.

• There are concerns with getting to and from the site on foot as there is no sidewalk.

• Additional washrooms and water re-fill stations should be considered.

Brooks RCMP is receiving an experienced Corporal with a strong background in crime reduction techniques and property crime investigation. Due to arrive at the end of September.
