“If we’re going to do a tax incentive bylaw let’s be aggressive about it. As aggressive as we can be without being irresponsible.” –CAO Matt Finske The County of Newell is seeking to provide an incentive to grow its property tax base and provide increased employment opportunities for County residents by attracting investment with a new bylaw. The intent of the new bylaw is to provide a municipal tax incentive to attract large commercial and industrial investors and promote expansion by existing investors. Since 2015 non-residential assessment values in the County of Newell have plummeted by $570 million as a result of oil and gas properties aging, decreasing their value.
