What are your BIG DREAMS for 2023?

Here are some more BIG DREAMS from the SPURS of 2022:

Two Bell Grill - In the next 5 years, I’d love to purchase another food trailer/ food truck so I can attend even more events as well as serve the Bassano/ Brooks area. And eventually, I hope to own a restaurant.

Our Heritage Wheat - I would LOVE to be somewhat of a homesteader one day. We have a little garden in our city yard and love the process of growing and making things from scratch. My husband also owns a business and we always dream about having a property where we work at our dreams and live a simple life. I love farm life so much and have always missed it since moving to the city. I hope I can give my kids the kind of childhood I had one day.

Hasty Coffee - We hope to continue to help Canadian roasters and new business owners grow their businesses through our service. We see the value for newer roasters to have innovative products, and we get so pumped every time we sign a new roaster on!

Maria’s Sweet Delights - My big dream is the reason I am at the Brooks Farmers’ Market ;) When I told my mom that I dreamed of opening my own Bakery she directed me to the Farmers’ Market as a place to start working on that dream.

Evil Needle - Haha, a tidy workshop and enough energy to feel like I got it all done 🤣

Mom Life Maternity & Baby Boutique -Annually, the Brooks Health Centre delivers approximately 300 babies. Ultimately the workshops and sessions will become important enough in our area that we will move into a larger space with a designated "family centre".

Micro Grins - To be able to influence others to live up to their own potential, and travel the world.

ZypChicks dreams of achieving worldwide hemp domination! Just joking! We’d like a successful business that is able to do good in our community. It is a simple dream because I’m a fairly simple person.

 MY BIG DREAM

Salt Flats Solar Project - PACE Canada LP made a presentation to City Council regarding a 160 acres solar project to be located within the City of Brooks across from Westland Acres. A Public information session was also held at the Brooks library on January 7.

  • The Project lands will be completely screened by a security fence and tree screening to reduce the visual impact.

  • The Solar Park allows for agrivoltaic farming, growing crops underneath solar panels.

  • Next steps include Noise Studies and Glint and Glare Studies

Another Information session is scheduled for March 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Urban Hen Pilot Program - two-year period starting January 1, 2023. Two clauses were added to the guidelines:

  • The City may, at its own discretion, terminate the urban Hen pilot program in case of extreme circumstances such as an outbreak of avian flu

  • If a participant in the pilot program continuously does not follow the requirements of the pilot program, they may have their Hen Licence revoked.

Chief Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Lehman was consulted in regard to avian influenza concerns. He advised that there were no concerns with starting the program in the winter.
