The rise in COVID-19 cases and the resulting demand on hospital resources means AHS is postponing non-urgent surgeries and procedures across all zones. Cancer surgeries will be prioritized. Calgary Zone and South Zone are postponing up to 30% of scheduled surgeries.

Why should we vote for you?

Many people approached me to seek the mayoralty chair. When Morishita announced his retirement, I put my name in for Mayor.

When I ran for council four years ago, I wanted to help, contribute, and serve the community. My focus was on economic development, and it is still my focus today. 

Elections are for ideas. During the campaign, I will bring forth several ideas on how to make the community better. I will be talking to the business community and residents about their ideas as well.

I have been on many organizations and clubs in Brooks from Chamber President, School Board Trustee, Rotary President, Nursery School President, Recreation Board, and currently serve on FCSS; Community Futures; Arts, Culture and Heritage; Newell Regional Tourism Association; and Communities in Bloom.

Testing for Lead – A two-person team, one a chemical engineer, will be testing residential water in the County. The testing will be completed by the end of September. Water has always been tested. In 2019 the government of Canada lowered the acceptable levels of lead in drinking water. Municipal drinking water systems were given five years to develop and implement their water quality monitoring plans. Lead can lech into the drinking water in older homes. Some good information about Rattlesnakes – Snakes poked their heads out at Emerson Campground. The County of Newell Ag team received training from AB Parks. They didn’t find any snakes but were told it was a good chance they always had snakes. They don’t like people and aren’t aggressive to people unless you are aggressive to them. Make lots of sound vibrations and they will bugger off, recommends Todd Green

Other interesting snake facts:

• Older snakes want to keep their venom for their prey. A young snake doesn’t know that and will release more venom.

• Hybernacular: an underground chamber where snakes can safely spend the winter protected from the cold.

Farmers Market in the Park Food Trucks and Vendors will be set up around Veterans Park for 5 more Thursdays 2-6PM. Children’s clothes, sooses, beautiful bows and scrunches, bath bombs, soaps, fresh fall flower arrangements, foot relief, crystals. Cabbage, onions, watermelon, hot peppers, beans, pumpkins. Sourdough donuts and bread, loaves, pies and cookies. Two Bell burgers for supper and Cool Beans for dessert.

Some Albertans are receiving texts telling them they have won the Open for Summer Lottery, instructing them to click a link. These messages are fraudulent. Lottery winners are contacted directly and are not asked to click on any links to claim prizes. Anyone receiving text messages of this type should contact police to report fraudulent activity.

Brooks Show ‘n Shine - Saturday, September 11th. There will be 150 Classic vehicles from across Alberta, on display downtown on 1 Street (Earthy Eats Street) & 2 Street West (The Steaming Cup Street), and 1 Avene West (City Hall Street). The Farmers’ Market and Food Trucks will be set up in Veterans Park.

How to Clarify Your Message – Talk about Your Customer’s Problem

The problem is the key. If we don’t define the problem, people will stop paying attention. Until you start talking about your product, or your brand as the solution to somebody’s problem, they won’t be interested.

Here is the story formula used by a baker to sell a wedding cake:

A Character That Wants Something: Every bride wants a beautiful wedding cake that reflects the meaning of the moment.

Our Character Encounters a Problem: The problem is that most wedding cakes taste terrible and literally leave a bad taste in the guests’ mouths.
