Cassils Road Rezoning Approved – Council approved rezoning along 11 Street West near Cassils Road at Monday night’s meeting, following a public hearing where concerns were raised by both residents and Brooks Christian Reformed Church. Resident letters focused on potential impacts to property values, increased traffic, and neighbourhood noise. The church’s submission raised broader planning and infrastructure issues, including drainage, road standards, and the need for a coordinated approach to development along the full 11 Street West corridor. The church also questioned the proposed density, asking Council to consider medium-density instead of high-density, and emphasized the importance of maintaining the character of the neighbourhood through meaningful green space and thoughtful design, not simply maximizing unit count. Following the hearing, Council approved medium-density zoning on the east side of 11 Street by a 4-1 vote, and high-density on the west side by a 3–2 vote.
