Traffic Fine Increase - The Government of Alberta has increased fines, effective March 13, 2026. These are province-wide changes. Under the updated schedule, fines for many common traffic offences increased by approximately 30%, while fines for high‑risk driving offences increased by 50%.

Speeding Penalties:

• 30 km/h over the limit: up to $324

• 40 km/h over the limit: up to $560

• 50 km/h over the limit: up to $744 (50% increase)

• Construction zone speeding: $540

Other FInes:

• Non-compliant tinted windows: $105 (30% increase)

• Unsafe left turn: $211 (30% increase)

• Driving without a licence: $351

• Distracted driving: $390 (30% increase)

• No active vehicle registration: $527

• Stunting: $852 (50% increase)

Fire Chief Kevin Swanson Retires – April 6 marks the end of an era for the Brooks Fire Department. Kevin Swanson's connection to the department spans nearly four decades, beginning as a volunteer firefighter in 1987 and serving in many roles before becoming Fire Chief. Over his career, he helped build the training culture, emergency response systems, and team identity that define the department today. He will be remembered as someone who showed up the same way every day - professional and positive. Brooks is a better-protected and better-connected community because of his work. Saturday Markets Are Back – Saturday markets at the Brooks Farmers' Market were added because the community asked for them. Last season was the first test of five NEW Saturday markets, up to 3,000 visitors, and 24 vendors who came only on Saturdays. The results spoke for themselves. Saturday markets are back for 2026, and spots are still available. Applications are open. Apply now. You don't need to commit to a full season to get started. 👏👏

Volunteers Needed for Food Bank Garden – Community groups are invited to help with the Hands and Harvest Garden Project, which will grow fresh produce for local families. Volunteer commitments are flexible, with most groups asked to help just once or twice during the season. Contact Duane to volunteer.

Blossoms & Ballads Gala - Sat, Apr 25 at the Heritage Inn Hotel and Convention Centre. The evening will feature dinner, live music, showcases, and a silent auction. This gala is a community fundraiser, supporting the endeavours of both the Brooks Music Festival Association and the Brooks Rotary Club.
