Thu Oct 19th is National New Friends Day To celebrate why not begin building a new friendship with a neighbour? Maybe you have a shared interest in birdwatching, photography or running.

Spurring us on . . . this week’s Good Neighbour Story highlights an instance of neighbourhood collaboration. A few years ago, a night run was organized around a neighbourhood park. To accommodate the event, the street had to be closed, so the organizers went door to door to inform their neighbours. They told them about the run's purpose and where the raised funds would be directed. It was the first time they had met most of these neighbours. Despite not sharing the organizers' interest in running, the neighbours extended their wholehearted support. One neighbour even asked if they could make a donation, despite not participating in the run, and another generously offered to provide power for the event's sound and lights.

This story beautifully illustrates the power of community collaboration and support, showcasing the positive impact of building connections with your neighbours.

Here's the challenge: connect with YOUR neighbours. You might be surprised at the friendships you can build and the positive impact you can make. Let's spur on the spirit of unity within our community.

Secondary suites bylaw was discussed by City Council to consider allowing more flexibility to address the housing shortage. Parking issues related to many secondary suites were a notable concern, and the expense associated with meeting Building Code requirements was acknowledged. Ultimately, the decision was made to maintain the existing bylaw for secondary suites while continuing to monitor the situation.

The divisional boundaries have remained largely unchanged since 1953, with one exception. In 1987 Division 5, which surrounds the City of Brooks, was divided into two areas in response to population growth, resulting in the creation of Division 10. Here is a table that summarizes the County population by electoral division. County residents can recommend whether Councillor numbers should remain at 10, reduced to 9, or reduced to 7.
