WHAT IS YOUR WHY I have always loved to help people! So when I began making body products, my first priority was to my family, to provide them with good quality bath products that wouldn’t dry out their skin, especially during our long Canadian winters. I was later excited to present these soaps to other people in the hope that they could also benefit from the Emu oil products that I make. I have since found that Essential Emu products have been appreciated by many people, particularly those with sensitive skin. CHALLENGES. Soap making seems to be quite a common hobby or business for many people so it was a challenge to create personal products that were different and stood apart from other soap makers. Growing up with an Australian heritage and being familiar with Emu oil and its many uses has greatly contributed to the challenges I have faced in creating unique and quality products. Discovering the wide variety of phenomenal uses for naturally grown herbs has additionally accentuated the ability to create a special unique market. MOTIVATION. What keeps you going on difficult days? Stubbornness more than anything, I suppose. I’ve never been someone who backs down from a challenge and sometimes I’ve found that the more challenging the project, the more appealing it is to me. I’m not convinced it’s always a positive quality. My children also keep me motivated, especially as I see how much they enjoy the market atmosphere, the connections that we make with people who continue to attend markets either as vendors or shoppers year after year and how they enjoy the soap making and (more recently) herb gathering and preparing as much as I do.
