City of Brooks Residential New Build Incentive policy - Council discussed attainable housing in the City of Brooks. To encourage residential development they created a Residential New Build Incentive policy:

Year 1 ‐ 100% reduction of Municipal Taxes

Year 2 ‐ 75% reduction of Municipal Taxes

Year 3 ‐ 50% reduction of Municipal Taxes

Year 4 – 25% reduction of Municipal Taxes

Qualifying period will be from June 19, 2023, to December 31, 2025.

• Applications must be received prior to construction commencement.

• If the property has a residential/commercial split, the incentive is only applied to the residential portion.

• New Builds include Site‐Built Homes; Modular Homes; or, Manufactured Homes.

Canon in Veteran’s Park - with the building up for sale the Legion is trying to find a new home for their canon. They had asked the City to help them with the cost to have it placed in the cemetery. Councillors felt the cemetery was not appropriate, as it is a resting place, and the canon is more of a museum display. The Brooks Legion does not wish to have it located at the Museum. Council Committee’s next suggestion is to place it by the cenotaph in Veteran’s Park.

Brooks Dog Park - The volunteers on the Dog Park Task Force have been “busting their tails off” to create a plan for the City of Brooks Dog Park! They would love to know what you think about it. Let them know your thoughts here.

Recreation Department surveyed rates and fees of several similar-sized community recreation centers that have comparable services and amenities. The Committee reviewed each item individually and compared the sector average. The most significant increases are to the various "Party Packs." This is due to a complete revamping of the packages to create consistency in how the packages are priced. There has been a "Turf Conversion" fee added for the installation and removal of artificial turf in the Fieldhouse. Also new is a "Student" rate for post-secondary students, and the addition of a "Play Centre Party Pack."

2023 Alberta 55+ Summer Games ​take place August 17th - 20th. Volunteers are needed for sports chairs to run horseshoes, floor shuffleboard, cornhole, and cribbage. Sports chair positions are responsible for running the event, creating draws, managing event volunteers, and running the event with the help of the advisor/judge. 2023 ATCO franchise fees are lower than originally forecasted for the City of Brooks by approximately $57,259 or 7.41%. The updated estimate is lower due to the reduction in the distribution rate for natural gas, which was approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), and a warmer winter than was anticipated.

Silversage Rd from Young Rd to Hwy. 36 is being repaired and repaved. The intersection is the City's and West and South of it is the County's. The County and City will split the cost. The total cost is $89,000. Funding for this project will come from the City’s Street Improvement budget. There is $175,000 remaining in that budget.
