Utility Penalties Waived - The City of Brooks has waived utility bill penalties incurred during the recent unanticipated Canada Post strike, citing the hardship it caused residents. Council unanimously agreed on the measure to ensure taxpayers feel valued. Residents are encouraged to subscribe to online payments, assistance is available at City Hall.

City Rejoining PEP The City of Brooks will rejoin the Palliser Economic Partnership (PEP), a regional alliance supporting economic development across Southeast Alberta. Previously a member until 2020, the City decided to renew its membership after discussions with neighbouring municipalities. Joining PEP will cost $14,925 annually and allow the City to collaborate on broader regional projects like marketing, investment attraction, and workforce development. Membership would align with the City's strategic goals and be funded from the Joint Services budget.

City will amend utility fees effective January 1, 2025, to align with the recently approved 2025 Operating Budget. Rates will increase by 10% each for water and sewer and 4% for waste management to cover rising service costs and future infrastructure needs. For a typical household, this will mean a bi-monthly increase of approximately $18, slightly lower than initial estimates of $20, due to anticipated customer growth. The amendments to the fee's bylaw will ensure the utility services costs are recovered from the users of the services.
