Development Potential in Tilley - At what level should the County consider becoming involved in the development of the Tilley west end? The County of Newell council debated the question last week. Since the dissolution of the Village of Tilley in 2013, the County of Newell has overseen its assets. Despite infrastructure upgrades, private developers have shown limited interest in the site. Additional residential development in the Hamlet would benefit the Community as a whole. Increased property tax revenue, greater use of infrastructure services, relief to the local housing shortage, and an increased population to support the new school in Tilley are a few benefits that could be realized from residential expansion. However, land development comes with risks. Municipalities in the region have developed land for residential, commercial and industrial developments, and much of that land sits vacant.
