Could Data Centres Be Coming to Our Region? – A report to County Council highlighted insights from the Digital Innovation Forum, attended by Councillors Neil Johnson, Greg Skriver, and the EcDev Officer Mitchell Iwaasa. According to their report, Alberta is being positioned as a prime location for data centres and AI infrastructure, with advantages like low-cost natural gas, available land, and a cooler climate. One idea being explored is using inactive or low-producing gas wells to generate electricity on-site and use it to power Bitcoin mining, where computers use large amounts of electricity to run and secure digital systems.

New Face and New Feature at Emerson Bridge Park – Emerson Bridge Park will have a new Park Supervisor this season, with Dorwyn stepping into the role as the park prepares to open. At the same time, plans are moving ahead for a new pump track. After a competitive bid process, a supplier and design have been selected, with the track expected to arrive in July and be installed soon after.

Hundreds of New Trees at Aqueduct – The Brooks Fishing and Game Association is planning a tree planting project at the aqueduct site this spring, with more than 200 new trees expected to go in. The planting is tentatively set for May 9 and will focus on replacing and enhancing the existing tree area.

Rural Recreation Funding – The newly named Rural Brooks Area Recreation Board approved funding for community projects across the region. Funding included upgrades at Lake Newell Resort, with $13,210 for new basketball standards and $12,000 for park and beach maintenance. The Silver Sage Agricultural Society received $26,000 for storage and facility improvements, and the Cassils Community Centre received $23,015 for upgrades, including cupboards and electrical work. Division 4 distributed $40,750 to local projects, including air conditioning in Rainier, renovations at Scandia Hall, repainting the EID Park elevator, foundation work for the Bow Slope Historical building, and community enhancement projects in Scandia.

Volunteers Needed for Food Bank Garden – Community groups are invited to help with the Hands and Harvest Garden Project, which will grow fresh produce for local families.
