Alberta Police Funding Model has allowed the provincial police service to expand the Bassano detachment with a new regular member position. The existing Corporal position at the Bassano detachment will be reclassified to a Sergeant level, to enhance leadership at the detachment. This funding has also supported the growth of specialized units, including intelligence analysts, investigative teams, K-9 units, and Emergency Response Teams. Their presence is not always visible, but these units provide crucial support for complex cases and critical incidents, enabling detachment members to concentrate on frontline policing.

NewGrow 2023 Fall Intake - Applications are being accepted from businesses in the Brooks Newell Region. With $19,000 to be awarded to regional businesses. Application packages are due November 24th. Pitch Night is Friday, December 1.

Tilley Fire Department is scheduled for a new replacement pumper/tender engine in 2024. Due to concerns about rising costs and supplier warnings of further increases, Emergency Services is seeking approval to begin the 2024 acquisition of the Tilley Fire Pumper/Tender Unit. The current budget for this replacement stands at $685,000. This cost surpasses the estimated 2024 budget of $500,000 by 31%. If they wait until 2024 to purchase this unit, pre-covid was always 5% a year; however, the last 18 months have seen an almost 50% increase.

Canadian Farmers’ Markets (CFM) has launched a nationwide campaign urging the Government of Canada to invest in a fund supporting provincial farmers’ market nutrition coupon programs. Petitions have been collected from 68 farmers' markets across Canada, including Brooks, and sent to 52 Members of Parliament for tabling in the House of Commons. This campaign aims to address rising food insecurity rates in Canada, which reached 18.5% in 2022. CTV did a story on Alberta Farmers’ Market adding their voice to the campaign.

This past season the Brooks Farmers’ Market received a $25,000 Community Impact Award from the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta to run the Market FOOD Money program. The WIN WIN WIN of the program is that it addressed Food Insecurity - putting food in hungry bellies, it also addressed Food Security - keeping farmers farming, and it built community - bringing new people to the market. Vendors and organizers saw the real impact and effectiveness of the program.
