I am very fortunate to work with my husband, son and dad in our mustard business, Cian’s Mustard. We have been operating since 2013, sustainably growing and though life gave us lemons we decided to make mustard instead, pursuing it full-time.

My background is child, family and community care throwing in a bit of life coaching. Seeing people succeed is my passion! I am a bit of a warrior when I believe in something and seeing people pursue their dreams is always inspiring. So much so, that we have opened our production facility for others to use as they grow, sharing our experiences to assist others along their paths.

It seemed to be a natural fit of taking an active role with the Alberta Farmers Market Association as I appreciate the full circle (you – family – community – farmers market). I look forward to what we can grow together!

Community Awards of Excellence to the Brooks Newell Region Economic Development for their Innovative Approach to Economic Development in their Workforce Development Strategy. The Award is from the Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) Annual Awards of Excellence.

Eleven proposals were received for the new Public Works shop and administration building. The construction of the building is a significant addition to the City of Brooks assets. For this reason, a Committee consisting of Councillors Prentice, Nesbitt and Juska, the Manager of Works and Utilities, and the Manager of Planning and Engineering will evaluate proposals.

After much debate, City Council voted 4 to 3 in favour of the new bylaw to allow for the creation of a ride-share business such as Uber, (Transportation Network Company). Councillors in favour of the new bylaw argued that rather than the possibility of the three taxi companies suffering it may be an opportunity for innovation. Requirements for a ride-share business relatively similar to the requirements for Taxis, Shuttle Buses and Limousines; however, the Province has placed some additional requirements upon Transportation Network Companies. Updates to the Bylaw include:

• Prohibiting Transportation Network Vehicles from picking up passengers that are street hailing, all rides must be pre-arranged.

• Transportation Network Vehicles to display the name or trademark, not having markings of a Taxi and not operate as a Taxi.

• After discussion with local taxi companies, the requirement to operate a taxi or transportation network company 24/7 was removed.

• A "handi vehicle" has been replaced with "access transit vehicle".

Downtown Brooks Mural - Duchess School, the Brooks Composite High School and 2nd's on 2nd are collaborating on a mural that reflects the values of 2nd on 2nd's community role and improves the appearance of Downtown Brooks. The mural will give students an opportunity to engage and create artwork with real-world stakes to work within. From a school standpoint, it fulfills various curricular objectives. The mural uses hidden hearts and Elephants to represent women/motherhood/strength.
