Southeast Brooks Gets an Update - The City is updating its Southeast Sector Area Structure Plan—the roadmap for how land east of 7th Street East will grow. Covering about 1,000 acres between the Old #1 Highway, Cassils Road, the Trans-Canada Highway, and the Horticultural Centre, roughly half of the area is already developed, with the City owning about 200 acres. The update refreshes the 2013 plan to reflect Council’s more recent decisions and align with big-picture goals like the Municipal Development Plan, parks and trails strategies, and infrastructure plans. Community Peace Officer Report - In the first half of 2025, City Peace Officers provided a wide range of services, including car seat inspections (by appointment and walk-ins), participation in the Safe Communities Youth Police Academy, radar training, an online safety presentation, bike rodeos, and traffic control for the Rodeo Parade.

Collaboration with outside agencies remained a priority. Officers met monthly with Brooks RCMP and County CPOs to share information and assisted with motor vehicle collisions and emergencies. They also supported Recreation staff.

City Peace Officers logged more than 1,500 hours on traffic enforcement this quarter, resulting in 23 summonses for no insurance and four suspended drivers.

On the bylaw side, more than 450 hours went into parking enforcement, property care, and citizen concerns. This led to 145 snow removal notices, 26 overgrown tree/shrub notices, 97 overgrown grass notices, and 54 unsightly property notices. Seven hen licences have now been approved since the bylaw passed, and new dash cameras were installed in patrol vehicles.

BAPS Quarterly Report - In the first half of 2025, the Brooks Animal Protection Society (BAPS) reported caring for 173 cats and 79 dogs during this period, finding homes for 89 cats and 23 dogs. Major sources of support included City and public contributions. Adoption fees add about $5,000.

Reimbursement Policy Updated - The City has updated its Reimbursement of Expenses Policy following recommendations from the Council Remuneration Committee, which is made up of two local professionals appointed by Council, one former Council member, and the City’s CAO. One of the biggest changes is how meals are covered: instead of a flat $23 per meal, expenses will now be reimbursed at the actual cost with a receipt. The policy also clarifies that Administration will book hotels and flights, and any changes will need CAO approval.

Municipal Election - The Municipal General Election will be held on October 20, 2025. Nomination period for the 2025 General Election will run until noon on nomination day, September 22, 2025.
