WHAT IS YOUR WHY? I am so passionate about what I do! I work in the Community Policing Unit at the Brooks RCMP Detachment, and I handle all things crime prevention, community safety, and officer engagement! I get to work with Brooks and Bassano RCMP, City and County Peace Officers, Bylaw, and lots of our other emergency responders! We work to educate and engage with our community- no matter the age, gender, race, or religion! We have a huge following on social media, and it so rewarding to be able to educate such a large audience, and make meaningful connections with those we reach. I am a firm believer in ‘prevention over intervention’, and my current role allows me to bring that into focus while working collaboratively with community partners and agencies to develop and implement strategic solutions to reduce crime and victimization.
CHALLENGES? I wouldn't necessarily call it a challenge, but an aspect of my job that requires a bit more creative thinking is definitely when it comes to finding ways to get information and resources to all demographics and geographical areas. These days, there are so many different mediums people use to get their information, so it can be a task to try and get important info to everyone where they're at.
MOTIVATION? Hands down, my motivation comes from the results that we see within and beyond our community. Whether it be crime trends going down, victims knowing more about their options, or success stories we hear after helping someone- it just reminds us how much value there is in what we're doing. I also absolutely love the general community being eager to take part in our programs and initiatives- agencies, businesses, and community members are always ready to contribute to something for the betterment of our City and County, and that is so heartwarming to see.
