SEPTEMBER 20 2021

MOTIVATION: Knowing that I can make a difference, Looking back on relationships made and the difference they are making. The giving plans and funds we set up are as different and varied as the donors we work with. We provide a way for anyone to create a lasting legacy for their community.

ADVICE: Connect more with local charities, have conversations with them. When I started I had no idea of the issues that impact the charities. Learn more about giving back.

Jim Third is running for City Council.

Why should we vote for you?

1. BRING NEW AND MEANINGFUL BUSINESSES TO BROOKS

With the right businesses and stores in Brooks, not only will we get more jobs in Brooks, but we can finally truly start shopping local.

2.  ENFORCE PROPERTY MAINTENANCE - I plan to make it a priority of Peace Officers and city workers to enforce the additional section of the bylaw allowing the City to clean up the premises at the owner’s expense.

3. ROADS, ROADS, ROADS! - Let's make an honest effort to repair potholes, better snow clearing, better road sweeping.

4. GARBAGE - If I get voted in as Councillor, I plan to look into a "garbage forgiveness day" where every resident of Brooks can have one day per year where they can call the city for a special large garbage pickup. At no (or low minimal cost) to them.

The City of Brooks has 31 Boards, Committees and Commissions where Council members are appointed to represent the City. Currently, the Mayor and Councillors sit on between 4-9 committees each.

Update to Land Use The County is intending to remove the Fringe district. The City is concerned that converting land from Fringe district to agriculture general district could ignore some of the impacts that activities have on an urban municipality.

Restrictions Exemption Program (REP) will be initiated at the Centennial Regional Arena and the JBS Canada Centre in response to the latest Provincial COVID-19 restrictions.

Proof of vaccination, documentation of a medical exemption or proof of a privately paid negative PCR or rapid test within 72 hours of service, will be required. This will allow for all activities to take place and enable facilities to operate at full capacity.

“This was a difficult decision to make, given the limited options provided by the Province,” said Chief Administrative Officer, Alan Martens. “In the end we chose the path that would allow the greatest number of area citizens to make use of and attend at the facilities.”

Get your digital proof of vaccination here. Enter your personal healthcare number, birthdate, and the month and year of vaccination. Download your card and print it out or save it to your phone.

Special Market Ending Giveaway. Get entered for store credit with every purchase from Jozie.Co & Aggie Loewen during the final 3 Farmers’ Markets in Veterans Park, Thursdays 2-6PM.

Beautification and Trails program included a proposal to extend the trail along Cassils road from Duke of Sutherland to the Kiwanis Campground. An abundance of shallow utilities that would have to be hydroexcavated makes the project too costly. The proposed floating dock on Meadowbrook Pond is not possible due to environmental restrictions because it is a provincial wetland. New options will be looked at and brought forward in 2022.

How to Clarify Your Message – Define the Stakes and Create Urgency

Would Elliot get E.T. back home? Would Luke destroy the Death Star? Would Rocky defeat Apollo Creed? Cold Daniel really beat the bully and win the karate tournament with a hurt leg?

Do you want people as engaged in you and your brand? Do you want to differentiate yourself as a leader? Do you want your product to matter on the open market? Do you want your brand to stand out in a crowded segment? If you do, define what’s at stake if the audience chooses somebody else over you.

Here is the story formula used by a baker to sell a wedding cake:

A Character That Wants Something: Every bride wants a beautiful wedding cake that reflects the meaning of the moment.

Our Character Encounters a Problem: The problem is that most wedding cakes taste terrible and literally leave a bad taste in the guests’ mouths.

The Guide Calls the Hero to Action: Schedule your appointment today.

Define the Stakes–Success: If you do, your guests will be astonished at the beauty of your cake and keep coming back for seconds.

Define the Stakes–Failure: Don’t let your cake be a bad-tasting letdown. Schedule an appointment today.
